My Very Short Commentaries post was a favorite of mine and several of you readers. Even though I nudged and prodded, however, I couldn’t get anybody to take me up on suggesting a six-word commentary for any of the Deuterocanonical or Apocryphal books of the Old Testament. I’d really like to have these done before I teach Old Testament intro next spring. So how about it? Any good ideas? Here are a couple of suggestions to get the ball rolling:
Tobit
Courage, righteous ones, angels are working. (D. P.)
Judith
A beautiful widow’s faith saves Bethulia. (D. P.)
1 Maccabees
Rebels with cause: beat those Greeks. (Mike)
Mattithias’ boys lift the Syrian yoke. (D. P.)
2 Maccabees
Hannukah! Israel is free once again! (D. P.)
Sirach
Heed wise, famous men, like grandpa. (Mike)
Wisdom of Solomon
Don’t let b*stards get you down. (Mike)
The Prayer of Azariah and the Song of the Three Jews
How can I keep from singing? (Mike)
Susanna
Prophet busts peeping toms, saves lady. (Mike)
The Prayer of Manasseh
Prayer on bended knees of heart. (Kevin P. Edgecomb)
Update: Suggestions have begun rolling in! I’ll add them to the master list as they come. Thanks!
