I received this email from a former church member in Indiana and it involves other dear people from that church. I’m reproducing the note here with last names omitted to guard the privacy of those involved:
Myra went to Zimbabwe with 13 others to the Eden Christian Village on a mission trip. They were due back on Saturday night. Myra always wanted to ride an elephant. They went on a “safari” and she and another woman rode
elephants. The elephants got into a fight and the riders were thrown off. The other woman (Julie) hurt her back but was released from the hospital. Myra’s foot and ankle was crushed by the foot of an elephant and she has compound fractures of her leg. They took her to the best hospital in the region and her foot was cast but there is a medical emergency with her (don’t know what that is) and she is being airlifted from Harrare, Zimbabwe, to Johannesburg, South Africa, for surgery on her foot. Jeff, her husband, if he can get his passport updated, will be flying to Johannesburg to be with her during her surgery and recuperation.
Please pray for Myra and Jeff, for Eden Christian Village, for the other 13 missionaries as they fly home distracted, for the surgeons, nurses and support staff, and for Jeff and Myra’s safe travel there and back. Jeff may have to be in Chicago by tomorrow to get his passport. Also please pray for Africa. One of the reasons Myra is being moved is that the electricity in the hospital cannot be depended on and they are struggling to find antibiotics to fight infection in her. THERE IS NO CVS IN ZIMBABWE. We forget what the world really looks like when we stay in our comfort zones.
God has worked miracles in this matter already and will continue to do so but those miracles have been mightily powered by prayers.
Thanks for your prayers.
Update: Myra is returning to the States as I write and is apparently doing well, although there are recuperative hurdles she has yet to clear. As Bob (from whom I’m getting this report) says, “God is good.”
