Mennonite Icons?

Phil Wyman’s THEOOZE article “Pentecostals, Emergents, Anabaptists, and Icons” suggests it is possible to find Mennonite icons designed by Orthodox iconographers. I had not heard of such a thing, but sure enough, a quick Internet search brought me to the Anabaptist Icons web page and to this write-up of the project.

See here for several Mennonites with differing views of the propriety of icons within their tradition.

As I’ve noted before, the Baptist churches of the Republic of Georgia have their own school of iconography. I don’t know if they’ve produced any icons of John Smyth and Thomas Helwys, and I don’t know if I’d buy one if they did, but with all the other icons adorning my office, I’d at least get a nice rendition of a Pantokrator or Madonna with Child.

I wonder if they’ll do icons of the Mennonites who were executed without trial by the US military for refusing to kill people?

Should I burn a flag on their commemoration day?

    I’ve been reading Howard Zinn…
