We saw it today. The preview trailers were far too violent for my kids and shouldn’t have been shown at this movie.
At first, I thought the film itself was promoting a militarist worldview, but this turned out, pleasantly, not to be the case. The special effects were great as was the acting. The film stayed true to the Marvel character, including his flaws (womanizing; already headed to the alcoholism that possesses him later, etc.).
There is enough violence (military-related, but fairly realistic), some cursing, and sex to deserve the PG-13 and parents should know that. There is no actual nudity (thanks to very careful camera work) or simulated sex, but we do see Tony Stark at the beginning of a one-night stand and we are let know that this is, at least before his “conversion,” a fairly common thing. Parents should be warned about all of this, beforehand.
But, I liked the movie and am looking forward to the already-planned sequel.
I liked it too! That is high praise, actually. I went because I was doing my husband a favor, and I enjoyed myself. It’s a marvel comic story–don’t forget. And I, unlike Ben W. don’t like it better than Spider Man, but it’s fun. And even has some “redeeming” moments.
