Keep Those Commentaries Coming In

I’m pleased to announce the completion of the New Testament on my Very Short Commentaries post. Each of the 27 books of the New Testament now has at least one very short commentary provided.

As you may remember, the rule of the game is to summarize an entire Bible book in precisely six words. There are still several open slots in the Old Testament, and I’m happy to consider second (or third) suggestions for New Testament books as well.

Also, I’m still hoping someone will step up to the plate and offer some very short commentaries on the Apocryphal/Deuterocanonical books.

Speaking of Saints…

The first-ever Patristics Carnival is now posted at Phil Snider’s hyperekperisou blog.

Nicholas of Myra, Pray with Us

Today is the feast of Saint Nicholas, and here is a preliminary rundown of some blogs you ought to visit for the occasion.

The Way of the Fathers: Jolly Old St. Nick?¢‚Ǩ‚Äùa Brawler?

Aardvark Alley: + Nicholas of Myra +

O Night Divine: Saint Nicholas, Part One: Reading Materials and Saint Nicholas, Part Two: Feast Day Celebrations

EquaMusic: Sinterklaas, wie kent hem niet? (What? You don’t read Dutch? Een tragedie!)

And, of course, today is the perfect day to muck around a bit at the website of the Saint Nicholas Center.

Almighty God,
who in your love gave to your servant Nicholas of Myra
a perpetual name for deeds of kindness on land and sea:
Grant, we pray, that your Church may never cease to work
for the happiness of children,
the safety of sailors,
the relief of the poor,
and the help of those tossed
by tempests of doubt or grief;
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
