Who Says It’s “Scholarship”?

Danny Zacharias at Deinde raises the issue of when scholarship is no longer “Christian.” This is with reference to the way the Jesus Seminar is referenced in a new book by James G. Crossley applying social science methodology to the history of the early church.

This is an apt observation, but I think at an even more fundamental level we must ask whether the Jesus Seminar is “scholarship”? In what other field of research do “scholars” reach their conclusions by majority vote? In what other scholarly consortium can a big-name movie producer with no relevant academic credentials become a member?
